Prince Albert SK – The Prince Albert Raiders prospect Reid Gardiner has continued his strong play at the 2012 Youth Olympics in Innsbruck Austria. The Humboldt, Saskatchewan native scored a goal in Canada’s 9-0 win over Team Austria earlier today. Gardiner now has registered 3 goals and 2 assists along with a plus 6 rating in 3 games. The Humboldt, Saskatchewan product also has recorded 10 shots on goal and 4 penalty minutes so far in the tournament.
Team Canada will finish the round robin portion of the tournament against Finland tomorrow before beginning the medal round on Friday.
The Raiders selected Gardiner 8th overall in last season’s WHL Bantam draft after scoring 50 goals and 31 assists in only 24 games with the bantam Humboldt Broncos of the Centre Four Hockey League. The Humboldt, Saskatchewan native, is having a strong season for the Saskatoon Contacts, who are currently in 1st place in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League, with Gardiner notching 15 goals and 17 assists in 28 games.
The Raiders return to action on Friday, hosting the Victoria Royals for the first time at the Art Hauser Centre. They will play their last home game of the month on Saturday, as they welcome the Eastern Conference leading Edmonton Oil Kings. Both games start at 7:00 PM.
