The Raiders host Medicine Hat Friday to close out a four game home stand and hope to increase their win streak to four.
However the Raiders will have to be careful. They like to play an up tempo game but have to avoid getting into a run and gun, end to end track meet on ice with Willie Desjardins' speedy smurfs.
The Raiders won the season series opener 6-0 in P.A. back on October 28th. It was a night that saw an unbeatable Garrett Zemlak record his first shutout and the offense take advantage of the chances they had.
In Medicine Hat on November 20th the Tigers turned the tables with some pinpoint shooting which followed some defensive breakdowns in the Raider zone to record a 6-4 win.
Team leading scorer Emerson Etem potted both Tigers goals in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Spokane. The sensational 17 year old from south of the border has 31 goals and 19 assists. Overagers Bretton Cameron and Wacey Hamilton also have 50 points. Meanwhile Wakaw's Linden Vey is always dangers against the Raiders.
Medicine Hat leads the Central division with 60 points, six back of the Conference leading Saskatoon Blades and two up on Calgary. However, the Tigers have played four more games than both.
The Raiders find themselves in the 8th and final playoff spot in the East, one point ahead of Swift Current and one back of Red Deer, but have played one more game than the Broncos and two more than the Rebels.
The P.A. offense has kicked into high gear with 16 goals over the last two games. Brandon Herrod has potted four goals among his six points while linemate Craig McCallum has a goal and five helpers. Captain Dustin Cameron was an even three and three for six points while from the backline Jordan Rowley counted two goals and three assists.
Stefan Warg made a big contribution to the Raiders 8-1 win over Calgary on Tuesday. In addition to a pair of assists the big Swede kept the coast clear for Zemlak to make many of his 50 saves. Teamate and fellow former Seattle Thunderbird Jonathan Parker showed there is some grit to go along with his speed and skill. He threw the night's biggest hit on former Raider Kyle Aschim at the end of the first period, ending his night.
Watch for Bruno Campese and his staff to stick with their tweaked top two lines. Ryan Harrison was in the middle with McCallum and Herrod on the wings while Jordan Hickmott was between Cameron and Igor Revenko who has scored in two of his three games since returing from a ten game abscense from a fractured jaw.
On Saturday, the Raiders make their final visit of the regular season to Moose Jaw as they meet the Warriors for the fifth time since Christmas in one of those scheduling quirks that happen each season.
For the second straight season the Raiders are in a playoff type atmosphere in a run toward what they hope is a spot in the post season.
They are three games above .500 which would put you in sixth in the West is only good enough for the most tenuous of holds on a playoff spot in the East. It could take a record of at least five games or better above hockey's sea level for P.A. to qualify for a post season dance partner, so every point is precious.
